New heights of excitement.

this is the fifth book in a thirteen-book-long series.

Continuing the journey from the conclusion of “Beyond the Deepwoods,” Twig serendipitously rescues Caterbird from Undertown. In this encounter, he gains crucial insights into the floating city of Sanctaphrax, his father’s whereabouts, and the extraordinary power of stormphrax, derived from a singular lightning bolt during the Great Storm.

The narrative unveils a by-product of stormphrax called phraxdust, capable of instantly purifying even the foulest water, holding immense commercial significance for The Edge’s inhabitants.

The hazardous process of converting stormphrax into phraxdust has claimed numerous lives, making it a perilous pursuit. On the sky ship Stormchaser, Twig, unfortunately, diminishes his standing by losing valuable cargo, compelling his financially strained father to embark on a perilous storm-chasing mission to settle debts.

Though Twig’s father initially rejects his company, Twig, persuaded into stowing away, unknowingly unveils one of his father’s most guarded secrets. What follows is a thrilling adventure that veers off course, with Twig leading an eclectic crew through the bewildering Twilight Forest and treacherous mire.

Discovering the secret of phraxdust, Twig deftly employs it to manipulate political dynamics, orchestrating a coup in the floating city. In the aftermath, he redistributes power in Undertown, negotiating his return to the skies.

This installment, darker and more thrilling than its predecessor, introduces elements of politics, greed, deception, and treachery, elevating the tale to new heights of excitement.

excellent reading

My favorite part was in the muck when Twig and Stone Pilot were mending the wind cutter! I really enjoyed Twig’s first book and found this one a little difficult to get into at first, but I liked the illustrations and the new characters and am looking forward to meeting the new crew members in the next one!
